Saturday Success

It’s not Thursday, but I’m sharing my small successes anyway. Actually, they’re not small. They’re huge. In fact, I might just drive to town to announce them there.

1. My car — formerly known as the Vehicle of Embarrassment and Countless Crumbs — has been transformed through the wonder of modern technology known as a vacuum sweeper. I didn’t do a cleaning job that would have passed muster with my dad in the days of my youth, and my car-obsessed brother will probably call me to make fun of me when he reads this. I don’t care. My car is cleaner than it’s been for an unknown amount of time. My motivation was inspired by a kind comment Prince Charming made a week ago and further stimulated by his suggestion that we take the cars through car washes this weekend.

2. The laundry in the kitchen, enough baskets’ worth to feel , is all folded. When Toddlerina wakes up (or when I finally go up to get her, because that might be her voice I hear faintly in the monitor), I’ll put it away. Then I’m going to stop doing laundry for a few day

3. One of the two things on my Weekend List was to do the bills. They were done yesterday afternoon. So, knowing I had that done before the weekend even really started, I went ahead and mopped the middle in the kitchen. It’s not perfect, and it wouldn’t make anyone proud to see it. I’m not so proud of the fact that I mopped or of the job I did mopping, but this is a success. Without a doubt, this is a success.

At this rate, I’m going to earn a gold star or something by tomorrow. Whether I will actually get to digging into the mess of the office or dropping off the giveaway stuff…well, does it matter? If Danielle hadn’t started me thinking about small successes eight weeks ago, I would probably be focusing, right now, on the many things that aren’t done around here. Thanks, Danielle. And if you, like me, tend to be hard on yourself and set impossible expectations, go spend some time in the Small Success corner of Faith & Family Live.
