Actually, they all chose the biggest boots they can find, so that St. Nicholas can put more candy in. When I started dating my American husband, I filled his (Army) boot as a joke and to introduce him to this custom. Now I HAVE to do it every year!! The two last years I had the problem to come up with something that I could put into baby boots... It's a great Saint to celebrate, and so much fun doing it.
