And the moral of the story: when the dear Lord sends you a farmer to help round up the wayward sheep, you say "thank you! You are my hero! May I get you a cup of coffee when you're done?"

Good story.

Sarah, this piece made me smil, both because of your excellent telling and because of the pictures from the summer. Brought back a memory from many years ago. I'm a city boy and the only "livestock" I knew were from the petting zoo. My wife and I were newly married, new job and a new fixer-upper house OUT IN THE COUNTRY. Your descriptions of your house adventurers also make me smile. Anyway, one morning just 2 minutes out of the house on the 45 minute commute to work I rounded a curve and there was a herd of cattle, crossing the road under the guidance of the farmer...moving from one pasture to another. Once I got over the surprise of being so close to real live cows, one decided to skip the other pasture and start down the road to have an adventure. Toward my car. Away from the farmer. It was at this precise moment I received the inspiration from above: "Get out and send the cow back". Without having a clue, without thinking and without any coffee, I got out of the car, waved my arms and stopped the cow and sent the cow back by waving my arms and making noise...she turned and joined the herd. The farmer waved thanks and I went on my way and only later realized that the beast weighed a bunch more than me and probably saw I was a city slicker. It was only the angel guarding me who must have been part farmer who whispered in my ear what to do that made it all happen. God works in marvelous ways sometimes using the most unlikely of us to accomplish His work.

They would have gone back in a heartbeat if they'd have had a 'Fox' chasing them... and my phone wouldn't have gone to answering. But my message would have been something like: "Hold on, Keep everything as is... I'll be there in a day...." I should tell you about my Uncle Hubert who told me (a city kid) to put on my good leather shoes and to walk in the doo-doo in the pig pen. He said it was good for the leather... I'm not quite that gullible any more...

It sounds like it was a grand adventure for a 4 year old. It also sounds like a huge success waiting to be posted on your successes this week. Too bad somebody didn't have a video camera of the whole adventure. It would have been worth laughing about - later of course, much later.
