I’m no fashionista when it comes to sunglasses. My current pair is actually a set of safety glasses, but they’ve set the record for lasting and that means they’re precious to me now. According to my brother-in-law, who uses them for his construction company, they cost something like $3. (I got mine because my husband took pity on me and said brother-in-law had given him this pair.)
But, like so many things in my life, they bear marks of my busy, active, full-of-children life. Sometimes I catch myself wondering if I’ll ever have a clear view out of them.
That’s the basis of my latest reflection at CatholicMom.com this week: “What’s that on my sunglasses?” Hope you enjoy it!
Speaking of things I don’t do well, insert cooking. And I seem to be at a particularly low point. In the past, when I hit a point like this, I tend to lean on PB&J and other old standby dinner options. This time, I asked for help and have about ten cookbooks on reserve at two different libraries, thanks to recommendations from friends on Facebook and Twitter.
At the low cooking point I’m at now, I’m especially glad for shows like Catholic Foodie and for people like Jeff Young, whose enthusiasm for cooking and food is contagious. Instead of annoying me with his near-fanatical love of the kitchen, he inspires me to get off my duff, even just a little, and aspire to higher things (like grilled cheese, say, instead of just PB&J).
On my “Mary in the Kitchen” segment on this week’s Catholic Foodie show, I reflect on how Mary too inspires me, even in the kitchen and in my cooking. With inspiration like that, I think I’ll be OK… :)
