Try and Try Again and a Review

I fail. A lot. Especially when the word “family” is combined with the word “fun.” Add “Catholic” to the front and you not only have a great book but also a bit of a nightmare for me.

So how is it that I came to not only author a book (with a subtitle that explains at least four of my personalities), but also to convert to being a huge proponent of this thing called “Catholic family fun”?

Find out the answer in my guest post at Mother’s Musings: Try and Try Again: Keeping at the Family Fun Thing.

Catholic dad of nine Jeffrey Hite had a go at the book, too, and it came out with what I consider a good review. He says, in part,

Now, being the parents of 9 kids means that there is not a lot that my wife and I have not really tried before. … we are always on the lookout for new ideas, enter Catholic Family Fun: A Guide for the Adventurous, Overwhelmed, Creative, or Clueless. This book is full of ideas.

For us many of the ideas were things that we had tried before, but even those Sarah had taken the time to put together lists of how you could change these ideas up in the “Make it Your Own” sections so that it fit your family, and how you could make use them to build your faith. Although we tend to be the fly by the seat of your pants kind of people, the planned details in to book were great. Information on what you would need and how long each activity could take and how long you would need would to take to setup ahead of time where invaluable

Writing Elsewhere

Here’s what I’ve been doing in other spaces in the last week…

Win a Kindle Touch and Catholic Family Fun

You can enter a number of different ways, a number of different times, but only through May 11. Read it all and enter to win at CatholicMom.com.

Star of the New Evangelization

The stars were GPS for the sailors of many years ago, and Mary is our GPS when it comes to the New Evangelization. Her perfect knowledge of Jesus will lead us closer to Him, if only we let it. We can look to her example and find inspiration and revival.

She shows us how to become a witness, even as we strive to become teachers.

Join me at New Evangelizers.

Introducing Myself in a New Place

I’m so excited to be part of a new initiative: a blog of Catholic women by Catholic women in Columbus! I introduce myself over there this week, and I hope you’ll join the fun, especially if you’re in the Columbus Diocese!

A Great New Novel

When I heard about Regina Doman’s new novel, written with Rebecca Bratten Weiss, Catholic Philosopher Chick Makes Her Debut, I was ALL ABOUT reading it.

Here’s the gist of my review: I LOVED IT. (Yes, in all caps. No apologies.)

May and Mary

May is, without a doubt, a crazy month for most of the people I know.

Lately, I’ve been reflecting on the fact that maybe May is Mary’s month because the only way we moms will get through it is with her help.

Call me a bit cynical. Or overwhelmed. Or considering crawling under the table to hide from my to-do list.

On the Tour Today

Today, on the Book Tour circuit:

I think my “fun quotient” just rose a few points.  And what’s even cooler is that this is just the beginning.  I have several more ideas to try, all thanks to Sarah’s great little book.

That’s from Ginny at Random Acts of Momness, and her “Ay, carumba” is now part of my lexicon when it comes to describing Catholic Family Fun.

Over at CatholicMom.com, Lisa Hendey (yes, the Lisa Hendey) shares this:

But don’t leave this book sitting on a shelf. It’s one that deserves a permanent spot on the kitchen counter. If used properly, it will probably be graced with fingerpaint smudges, muddy spots, and cookie dough. I plan to write the dates in our book when we do Sarah’s recommended activities, and to include a few notes on what we learned and special memories of the fun we enjoyed.

And don’t forget…

we’re giving away a Kindle Touch and some copies of the book, so be sure to enter to win!

What I want my kids to remember about growing up Catholic

One of the best parts of this Book Tour is the chance to interact with some of my favorite people.

Yesterday, Karina Fabian invited me to share one thing I want my kids to remember about growing up Catholic, which had me stumped for quite a while, let me tell you. She also shared one of her favorite memories of me, which made me smile.

Dianna Kennedy of The Kennedy Adventures also shares her review of Catholic Family Fun as today’s stop on the Book Tour.
